Two police officers injured by shoplifting suspect

In the northern district of Pforzheim, a dramatic incident unfolded on Tuesday evening at a supermarket on Hohenzollerstraße. A 46-year-old man, whose name has not been publicly disclosed, was charged with theft.

The man, who was found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of 1.00%, became aggressive towards police officers during the arrest. He reportedly attempted to use weapons against them, with a hunting knife and a power drill being identified as the tools he had in his possession.

Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the arrest. The officers have been identified, but their names have not been released to the public.

Following the arrest, the suspect was taken to the police station in Pforzheim for further procedures. After these were completed, he was released.

The supermarket where the theft occurred has taken steps to enhance security measures in response to the incident.

The accused now faces multiple charges, not just for the theft, but also for the aggressive behaviour towards the police officers. His court date has been scheduled for next week.

A legal representation has been appointed for the suspect. The specific offenses he is charged with, beyond the theft and the use of weapons against the officers, have not been disclosed.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of security measures in public places, and the consequences that can arise from acts of theft and violence.
